Joost Notenboom & Michiel Roodenburg

While majority of Americans spent their 4th of July weekend outdoors celebrating their independence with food and drinks, philanthropists Joost Notenboom & Michiel Roodenburg, started what will be a 1.5 year adventure cycling for water.

These two Dutch students will be riding their bikes from Deadhorse, in northern Alaska to the southern most tip of Argentina; the entire trip totaling 30,000 kilometres (18,641 miles). They plan on raising money as they go for water projects in Latin America, using Akvo.

Their mission is to” take one bottle of icy Alaskan water from the Beaufort Sea down to the seas around Tierra del Fuego in a symbolic effort to complete the natural water cycle and raise awareness for the global water crisis that is leaving over 1 billion people around the world without access to safe and clean drinking water.”

And they’re not jut riding any old bikes… they’re riding sustainable bamboo bikes!
